Welcome and thank you for visiting the Leighton Linslade District Scout web site.
You will see that although we are a relatively small District, 6 groups with 23 sections, we are very, very active.
In the last year, since December 2008, we have presented over 40 Chief Scout s Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond and Platinum awards. These are the highest possible awards that a Beaver, Cub, Scout, Explorer or Young Leader can achieve within their section.
Each year we aim to give every child the opportunity to take part in at least one nights away activity. Between all the groups in 2009 alone, we have offered young people across the District the opportunity to attend over 150 nights away whether on sleepovers or camps.
We are lucky to be surrounded by the great outdoors and take as much opportunity as possible to make use of it, whether at the Waterside Park, Linslade Woods, Heath Common or Buzzard s camp site. Each week one of our groups is likely to be doing something outside.
Like all Scout Districts and volunteer organisations, we need more pairs of hands. We know this problem will never go away and are always grateful for anyone that can give us an hour a month or 12 hours a day! We know that with more adult help we can provide a bigger and better program, with more activities and opportunities for the young people in the area.
At the moment we have more than 400 youngsters, both girls and boys aged between 6 and 14, actively participating in Scouting activities on a weekly basis.
All of this is possible because we have a fantastic set of leaders and helpers, which deserve more of my thanks than they get. To give up time to teach and give other people s children new opportunities and adventures takes a very special person.
